Imagine

Imagine someone that can hold

The universe in the palm of their hand.

Who created the stars and the heavens

By speaking.

Who invented life, breathed consciousness

Into heaped dust.

Imagine someone that killed seventy thousand

Because a king counted.

Who killed the army of a nation

Because they pursued His people.

Who wiped all but nine people from the face of the earth

Because they did not obey Him.

Imagine someone who expects love

When He doesn’t show His face.

Who believes that faith

Is as powerful as His presence.

Whose handiwork resounds

From the Earth and the heavens.

Imagine someone that gives rules to live by

And expects His people to obey them.

Who sets the standard of behaviour

At thinking right.

Who sacrifices His Son

Because we cannot do it.

Imagine someone who sees every tangled skein

Of our treacherous hearts.

Who can tell our marrow from our bone.

Who sees every sordid thought

Before we think it

And dwells within us still.

Imagine someone who can love

Perfectly, in the centre of His anger.

Who can see past

The absolute uselessness of His created ones.

Who wants us

Just because He does.

Imagine someone who loves

When those He loves deny even His existence.

Whose grand design is redemption

Not the punishment we deserve.

Who keeps inviting us into His heart

When our history is betrayal.

Imagine someone who is with you

Every moment of every day.

Who surrounds you with the gentleness

Of love tougher than steel.

Who feels the deep, cutting pain

Of every wound inflicted on you.

Imagine someone who is with you

Right now, living inside you.

Who completes the design

He laid down before time

Intertwined with you

His favourite
